Series combination for any type of electrical components, be it capacitors or resistors, series combination is the type of arrangement in which each of these components are connected in the circuit such that the current passing through each of the components remains the same.And in case, of capacitors the charge flowing must be the same which is passed on from the battery.

The case is just reversed for parallel arrangement, in which potential difference between each of these components is the same.

Thus ,this is the basic definition for the arrangements. However, calculation of Effective resistance or effective capacitance of the circuit may vary.
