Sertoli cells, which provide the anchor for germ cell development, are restricted to the tubular compartment of the testis, whereas Leydig cells are present in the intertubular/interstitial space. The Sertoli cells express functional receptors for FSH, whereas the Leydig cells express LH receptors.
