Male sperm carries XY chromosomes and female contains XX chromosomes.

So if a X chromosome from the make will fertilize The X chromosome of female then a boy child will get born.

X + Y -> XY (Male)

If a Y chromosome from the male will fertilize X chromosome of female then a girl child will get born.

X + X -> XX (Female)
