XX chromosomes depict a girl child
and
XY chromosomes depict a boy child

a female has two xx chromosomes while a male has one x and y chromosome. when a sperm contain x chromosome fertilise the egg the zygote would have X chromosome and develop into a female child.If the sperm contribute y chromosome at fertilisation of egg the zygote and develop a male child
