The unfavorable sex ratio in India is due to following causes:-
• Lesser care of female children as compared to male children.
• Women are subject to greater risks to their lives especially at the time of child birth.
• Women are also forced to die or killed by the dowry seekers and sometimes poor parents who cannot afford the dowry and let their infant daughters die.
