Sexual Reproduction!

The production of new living organisms by combining genetic information from two individuals of different types (sexes).

In most higher organisms, one sex (male) produces a small motile gamete which travels to fuse with a larger stationary gamete produced by the other (female).

Requirements of Sexual Reproduction

Sexual reproduction requires two parents.

Each parent contributes a gamete - a sex cell that has half of the normal DNA of a regular body cell.

In males, the gametes are sperm and in females, the gametes are eggs.

Advantage of Sexual Reproduction

  • More variation assists with survival.

  • It increases the chance that at least some offspring of a parent survive.

Thanking You!
