The shielding effect can be defined as the reduction of in the effective nuclear charge on the electron cloud, due to a difference in the attraction forces on the electron on the atom.It is a special case of electric field screening .This effect has also some significance in many project in material sciences .. Electron in an atom can shield each other from.the pull of the nucleos..This effect is called shielding effect describe the decrease in attraction between an electron and the nucleus in any atom with more than one cell electron..The more shielding that occur , the further the valence shell can spread out.
