Jhum cultivation is also known as shifting cultivation or slash and burn agriculture.

A type of cultivation in which a patch of land is cleared and trees are burnt down. The ashes are then mixed with the soil and crops are grown. The process is repeated again and again until the soil loses its fertility and when soil loses its fertility the land is abandoned by the farmer. This process is known as Shifting Cultivation.
