Shifting or jhum cultivation is a type of cultivation of  crops which was formerly used by the tribes . It was practiced in several countries such as India, etc. In this process of cultivation, various plants or herbs on a piece of land are burnt so as to produce ash which contains phosphate and other useful elements which increase the productivity. After this, the seeds are sown and the crops were grown and the land was left for several years to regrow the plants so as to repeat this process again. Later it was banned by British  in India because it causes too much pollution and also burn various large trees and affect the soil fertility. It also takes so much time to grow plants on a piece of land.
