Shifting Cultivation
Shifting cultivation is a form of cultivation in which the farmers use a plot of land to cultivate by cutting the trees of the land and then they burn those cut trees. This method of cutting and burning of trees is also called as Slash and burn method. Burning of trees, provides the ash and that ash is mixed with the soil, so that the crops get full nutrition and soil becomes fertile. This results in very nice cultivation and more and more vegetation is obtained from this method to the farmers. But there are many disadvantages of the shifting cultivation.
Here are some disadvantages!
• Deforestation occurs because in shifting cultivation, cutting trees is very important step.
• Cutting of trees results in infertile soil.
• Soil loses its nutrients and proteins.
• No more vegetation can be done on that soil.
• This cultivation uses a lot of area of forest which results in decrease of animal habitat.
• Burning of trees results in air pollution. The surrounding air gets polluted.
• Animals in forest suffer from respiratory diseases/disorders because of the presence of unwanted and harmful gasses in air they breathe.
• Burning may result in forest fire.
