shifting agriculture is a type of agriculture in which farmers cut a large number of trees to create land for cultivation in forests. farmers grow in the land for about 6 months until the land becomes unproductive(unable to grow crops). when the land becomes unproductive they move to another place and do the same in another part of the forest .it is practised in parts of assam etc. the disadvantage is that it causes deforestation

⚫Shifting agriculture / slash and burn is one of the oldest form of migratory and agriculture.


⚫It is practised mainly by tribal people.


⚫In this agriculture, each time a stop or an area of forest is selected (untouched) trees and bushes are cleared by slashing and the remaining agriculture is burnt. The ashes add potash to the soil. Then the seeds are sown after the rains.


⚫After two or three years of producing vegetable or grain crops on the plot or recently cleared land, the migrants abundant it for another newly cleared plot or an area of forest.



⚫The disadvantages of shifting cultivation are:-
