Take the molecule of Ethene.

In ethene there is one sigma and one pi bond.
Sigma bond is a result of axial overlapping
Pi bond is a result of lateral overlapping.

Now take the molecule of Ethene.
There is 1 sigma and Two pi bonds in it.
