Osmosis can be defined as the diffusion of water or solvent across a semipermeable membrane from a region of higher concentration to the region of lower concentration.
Types of osmosis are
Endosmosis :it is the osmotic entry of water into a cell or system.
Exosmosis:it is the osmotic withdrawal of water from a cell or a system.
It's importance are
Root absorption. Root absorb water from soil .
Cell to cell water movement. Cells absorb or lose water to one another.
Turgidity. Cells , tissues and soft organs maintain turgidity or stretched form due to osmotic absorption of water.
Plant movements.certain plant movements occur due to loss or gain of water.
Stomata. They open and close due to osmotic movement of water.
Dead or living. Osmosis occur only in living cells.

In all organisms, nutrients and minerals find their way in the cell due to osmosis. This is essential for the survival of the cell.Cells get rid their waste by the osmosis.Osmosis is largely important to the plants because the root cells absorb the water by this process.

Hope this Helps You!
