what is silk ? how do we get silk from cocoon​

Silk is a natural protein fibre which is made by silkworm cocoon.

We get silk from cocoon by the following ways:

a) Cocoons are collected and kept under the sun, or boiled or exposed to the steam. This helps in separating out the silk fibres.

b) Then, the spinning of silk fibres into thread is done.

c) The silk threads obtained are woven into the desired clothes.

Extracting raw silk starts by cultivating the silkworms on mulberry leaves. Once the worms start pupating in their cocoons, these are dissolved in boiling water in order for individual long fibres to be extracted and fed into the spinning reel.
