The similarity in the action of baking soda and soda acid fire extinguisher is as follows:
- Baking soda on reaction with an acid produces salt of acid , water and carbon dioxide.
- The carbon dioxide (as a product) is a non-supporter of inflammation and hence acts as an extinguisher.
- The fire extinguisher cylinder contains dilute sulphuric acid in a bottle. When the bottle is inverted in fire , the sodium bicarbonate reacts with sulphuric acid to produce carbon dioxide.
- Hence fire is extinguished.
Hope It Helps.
