what is simile and what is metaphor?

Two dissimilar objects are compared using like and as is called simile.

Example = the sun is like a yellow sketch . Metaphor is the same as simile but without using like and as.

When one object or person is directly compared to something else, using ‘like’ or ‘as _ as’, it is a Simile. Example: She is as beautiful as a flower. The Sun was like a hot furnace.

 

When one replaces the other in comparison, it is a Metaphor. Example: I am the apple of my father’s eye.
