A VERB TENSE THAT IS USED FOR 2 REASONS.

1. AN ACTION THAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW

EX. SHE LIVES IN CALIFORNIA

(I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TELL, IT DON'T ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING THAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW, IT IS LIKE A ACTION THAT HAPPENED, HAPPENING, AND GOING TO HAPPEN; LIKE SHE STAYED IN CALIFORNIA IN PAST SHE IS STAYING IN CALIFORNIA IN PRESENT AND SHE IS GOING TO STAY IN CALIFORNIA)

2. OR AN ACTION THAT HAPPENS REGULARLY

EX. I BRUSH MY TEETH.

(IT IS AN ACTION THAT HAPPENS REGULARLY)

Simple Present Tense

It is also called Present Tense (Present Indefinite Tense)

Now,

Here are some ways to use it -

(i) It is used to express habitual action.

examples - I watch television on Sunday.

(ii) It is used to talk about universal truth.

example - The sun rises in the East.

(iii) It is used to indicate a future event which is part of a plan or arrangement.

example - The school reopens next week.

(iv) It is used to introduce quotes with the verb 'says'.

example - Newton says, "Every action has equal and opposite reaction."

(v) It is used as a substitute for the simple past.

example - In Mahabharata, Ravana fights powerfully but he is killed in the past.

(vi) It is used in Exclamatory sentences that begin with here or there.

example - Here you go!

(vii) It is used in Time clauses and conditional clauses in place of simple future.

example -  If I will not go to the shop today, I will not get ice-cream.
