The single transferable method of voting depicts a system of voting that achieves pro-rata representation through the hierarchical voting system in constituencies.

Explanation:

  • In a multi-seat constitution, the single transferable system of voting depicts a voting system that declares the pro-rata representation of the results in a hierarchical fashion.
  • The voter under this system has one vote that is allowed to be put for his or her choice of the most deserving candidate.
  • In India, the President is elected by the method of STV but it generally occurs through the system of a single ballot.
