Answer: Slash and burn agriculture

Slash and burn agriculture is known as Jhumming in north-eastern states like Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland. It is also called as Dahiya in Madhya Pradesh.

It is a primitive subsistence farming where farmers clear a patch of land and food crops to sustain their family. When the soil fertility decreases, the farmers shift and clear a fresh patch of land for cultivation. This type of shifting allows nature to replenish the soil fertility through natural processes. The land productivity in this type of agriculture is low as the farmer does not use fertilizers or other modern inputs.

Hi,

The Slash and Burn agriculture is also known as "Podu" cultivation or shifting cultivation or Jhumming cultivation .

In this cultivation farmers have to clear   some parts of forest by burning them. As the ash improves the fertility of soil . There they sow the seeds . After the harvesting they moved their cultivation to other areas.
