slash and burn practice or shifting practice-
it is the farming in which farmers use a small amount of land and burn it .
after that they again cultivate that land and when the soil losses it's fertility then move to another place.

Answer :-

Slash and burn agriculture is also called jhumming or shifting cultivation.

Slash and burn agriculture is the type of primitive subsistence farming which involves burning of forests to clear it off and the unburnt trees are hacked out .

The characteristics of the slash and burn agriculture are as follows :-

(i) Primitive tools are used .

(ii) It is practised by tribal people who have little notions about science and the environment.

(iii) Irrigation and fertilisers are not used .

(iv) It leads to deforestation.

(v) It is not environment friendly .

Is it good or bad for forests?


Answer :-

It is absolutely bad for the forests .

Here are the reasons :-

(i) It makes the soil unproductive.

(ii) It leads to deforestation.

(iii) It leads to forest fires .

(iv) It causes increase in greenhouse gases .
