Sleep paralysis is when, during awakening or falling asleep,a person is aware but unable to move or sleep. During an episode one may hear, feel or see things that are not there. It often results in fear. Episodes last less than a couple of months. It may result as a single episode or be recurrent.

Sleep paralysis is a parasomnia which involves undesired events that come along with sleep.Sleep paralysis cause you to be unable to move your body when you are falling asleep or when waking up from sleep.
Normally, your brain cause your muscles to relax and and be still as you sleep. This is called atonia... Speep paralysis seems to be when this antonia occurs while you are awake. Sleep paralysis is "isolated" when it appears without any other signs of narcolepsy.
