Sleep paralysis is a feeling of being conscious but unable to move. It occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep. During these transitions, you may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Some people may also feel pressure or a sense of choking.

This is the stage in which when you sleep your body disconnects the connection neurons of hands and legs from the motor neuron present in your brain this to avoid walking in sleep in doing awkward things while dreaming and some when you wake up it take time to reconnect it from the neuron so at that time you were not able to move your hand and legs and you feel like as you are paralysed this happens only for few seconda upto 10 seconds (according to my experience) at this stage you are conscious but you are not avle to move your hand and legs that condition is called slewp paralysis.
