The functions of the lymph are as follows:

It is used to supply nutrients to the body.
It is used to remove the metabolic wastes from the tissue cells.
It is used to maintain the composition of tissue fluid.
It is used to absorb the fats from the small intestine through lymphatic vessels.
It is used to act against the pathogenic infections of microbes.

Lymph consists of the following components:

Carbohydrates
Lymphocytes
Creatinine
Water – 94%
Urea
Chlorides
Enzymes
Very low amount of fat
Proteins – Albumin, globulin, and fibrinogen
Nonprotein nitrogenous substance

In multicellular organisms, the lymphatic system plays a critical role. The lymphatic system consists of many parts which carry out the different functions of the body. Example: To drain the lymph fluid from tissues.(definition)

Through the pores present in the walls of capillaries some amount of plasma, proteins and blood cells escape into intercellular spaces between the tissue to form the the tissue fluid or lymph.

Function :-

1. Lymph drains into lymphatic capillaries from the intercellular spaces, which join to form large lymph vessels that finally open into larger veins.

2. Lymph carries digested and absorbed fat from intestine and drains excess fluid from extra cellular space back into the blood.
