What is Snell's law ? The refractive index of water with respect to air is 1-3
and that of a glass is 1-5. Calculate the refractive index of water with respect
to glass

Snell's law is also called Snell's law of refraction.

According to snell's law for a given pair of medium the refractive Index of one medium the ratio of sine of angle of incidence to sine of angle of refraction is always a constant.

 \frac{sine \: i}{sine \: r} = constant

It is also second law of refraction.

Now we know refractive index of a medium with respect to another medium is ratio of speed of light in it to speed of light in second medium.

It is given that :-

  • Refractive Index of water = 1.3
  • Refractive index of glass = 1.5

Now refractive index of water with respect to glass is :

\mu \: = \frac{1.3}{1.5} = 0.8

Therefore refractive index of water with respect to glass is 0.8
