what is so special about the leaves that they can synthesise food but other part of the plant cannot

leaves contains pigment chlorophyll a and b(in green plants) which is essential for photosynthesis.....other parts do not contain chlorophyll......but is some plants like opentia and cactus stem also contains chlorophyll and can perform photosynthesis

The leaves have a green pigment called chlorophyll which helps leaves to capture the energy of the sunlight and to synthesis food. Other parts of the plants do not have chlorophyll therefore they are unable to synthesise food.
