Both are concepts of two different fields of study and/or activities.

Democracy is a concept of political science or politics. It states that almost all or every person in a nation state is eligible to engage in the political machinations of the nation, through the representatives elected by them to government offices by means of a popular vote. Thereby, the government and its representatives are accountable to the people who voted for them. Modern Democracy also encompasses the concept of separation of power between president(executive),parliament(legislative) and the court(judiciary) so that no single body can do as it wills.

Socialism, on the other hand, is an economic concept. It advocates that the means of production should be distributed among all the people in an economy in order to promote greater income and social equality. It developed as the anti-thesis to capitalism, which states that capital or the means of production should rest in the hands of private individuals. Some of the economic policies by people who advocate Socialism are : reduction of private ownership, increased production of goods and services by state-owned monopolies, more social welfare provided to those who need it from the coffers of the government, greater progressive( income, wealth, inheritance, consumption) taxation, increased government intervention in the free market etc. The extreme forms of Socialism are known as Communism, which advocates a revolt against current government to establish a society where the workers will seize the country and implement the socialist policies by force. The more mild forms advocate implementing the policies through government legislation and education in a slow manner.

An economic system that gives emphasis on cooperative control of the resources of production and relies on the council of the workers or the state to be the spokesman of society on how will these resources be controlled and managed, is known as the Socialism.

The main difference between Socialism and Democracy is that while socialism is an economic system, democracy is a political ideology. In Socialism, we gave more focus on the governance of the economic activities in a country while in Democracy, the focus is on political governance of the citizens and various organization of a nation.
