Hard water........ is water that contains an appreciable quantity of dissolved minerals (like calcium & magnecium! ). Soft water is treated water in which the only ion is sodium m As rainwater falls soft water tastes salty & is sometimes not suitable for drinking.

Soft water produces lather (foam) with soap.
Hard water doesn't produce lather with soap.
This is because in hard water metals such as Magnesium and Calcium is dissolved which doesn't produce foam (lather).
