1. System software

System software directly interact with hardware. Few examples are operating system, compilers, utility program, device drivers etc. System software is responsible for managing hardware component.

2. Application software​

These software are used to perform user specific task and runs over the system software. Examples are browsers, media players,gaming applications​ etc.
