SOIL EROSION:-

The removal of fertile top soil by the action of wind,rain and river water is called soil erosion.

The loss of fertile topsoil makes the land unfit for farming.

CAUSES OF SOIL EROSION:-

  • Strong winds
  • Deforestation (Cutting down of trees in large numbers)
  • Overgrazing (grazing on same area for long time.)
  • Heavy rain causing floods.

  • Soil is the uppermost layer of the earth's surface that contains minerals, water and organic water is called Soil.

  • Soil is very important and valuable natural resource. plants grow in soil, some animals like rabbits,rats earthworm and ants live in the soil.

  • Big pieces of rocks breakdown into tiny pieces by the heat of sun, moving air and running water. This process is called Weathering.

Different places have different soils. The type of soil depends on the kind of rock from which its formed, soils differ in size, color and texture of particles. They are Mainly Three Types of Soils- Sandy, Clayey,And Loamy.

  \pink \bigstar\underbrace{  \bold\pink {Sandy \: Soil}}

  • It mainly contains sand (Big, light and loosely-packed particles).

  • It is found in deserts and on seashores.

  • It is yellow or light-brown in colour.

  • It cannot hold much water as water passes through it's particles easily.

  • It is mixed with cement and used for making buildings.

  \pink \bigstar\underbrace{  \bold\pink { Clayey\: Soil}}

  • It mainly contains clay (very fine and closely-packed particles).

  • It is found in ponds, beaches, and river beds.

  • It can hold a lot of water as water does not pass through it's particles easily.

  • It is used for making pots, toys and kachcha houses.

  \pink \bigstar\underbrace{  \bold\pink { Loamy\: Soil}}

  • It contains sand and clay.

  • It can hold enough air and water.

  • It is good for growing plants as it contains humus.

The protection of soil from its erosion is called conservation Of soil

  • The number of trees planted should be more than the number of trees we cut down.

  • Recycle paper so we can use the same paper again and again as many trees are been cut down for paper.

  • Floods causes soil erosion. so, Dams should be built to stop floods.

  • Step farming and construction of embankments help to Stop soil erosion.

  • We should grow different types of crops in the same field to maintain fertility of soil. This is called crop Rotation.
