The removal of the top layer of fertile soil by water is called soil erosion.

Reason behind soil erosion -

Deforestation is the main cause for soil erosion. The roots of the trees holds the soil tightly and prevent soil erosion but because  of soil erosion there are no trees who can hold the soil firmly and prevent it from being flown away along with the waves of water.

Methods to prevent soil erosion -

1) Plant more and more trees ( promote reforestation ).

2) Avoid cutting of trees.

3) Crop rotation

4) Retaining walls

5) Geotextiles
