The process in which the top layer of the soil is removed by the natural and human activities is called soil erosion.

Measures to prevent soil erosion are -

(1) Plant more trees means promote afforestation.

(2) Overgrazing must be stopped.

(3) Deforestation must be checked.

(4) Terrace farming and contour ploughing must be encouraged across the hill slope.

(5) Floods should be avoided by building dams across the rivers.

(6) Fodder crops should be raised.
