Soil Erosion:

The soil erosion can be characterised as wearing out of the top soil. Top soil is the very top layer of the soil and its the most fertile because it contains the organics, nutrients and minerals. The causes of soil erosion are Water, Wind, Tillage.

Methods of soil Conversion:

1. Counter ploughing: Ploughing is done at the right angles at the hill slope, following the natural contours of the hill. It makes the ridges and follows break the water flow down the hill. This prevents excessive soil loss and It also reduce the run of so that plants can receive more water.

1. Strip Cropping: In this, crops should be cultivated in alternate strips, which are parallel to one another. Some of the strips may be allowed to lie fallow, while others may be sown (eg. grains, small tree crops, legumes, grass). The tall growing plants acts as wind breaks and the strips that are parallel helps in increasing water absorption.
