A soil profile is a vertical section of soil. It allows you to examine the structure od soil. A soil profile is divided into layers called horizons.

A soil is a layer parallel to the soil surface whose, physical, chemical biological characterstics differ from layers above and beneath. Horizons are defined in many cases by obvious physical features, mainly colour and texture.

The soil profile composed of a series of horizons or layer of soil stacked one on the top of the other.
