The uppermost layer of earth crust that supports the plant life and is made up of humus, weathered rocks, minerals, etc. is known as soil.

The factors affecting formation of soil are :

→Relief, parent rock or bed rock, climate, vegetation and other forms of life and time.

→Various forms of nature such as change in temperature, action of running water, wind and glaciers, activities of decomposers, etc.

→ Chemical and organic changes which take place in the soil.
