The Kashmir conflict is a territorial conflict primarily between India and Pakistan, having started just after the partition of India in 1947. China has at times played a minor role.[2] India and Pakistan have fought three wars over Kashmir, including the Indo-Pakistani Wars of 1947 and 1965, as well as the Kargil War of 1999. The two countries have also been involved in several skirmishes over control of the Siachen Glacier.

Person will be given double Nobel Prize if they could convince Government of Pakistan to leave the 1947 occupied part of Kashmir and Government of India to call for a plebiscite as they've promised to do once Kashmir war ends.

If you're an Indian you can refer to answers on Quora for reasons of Indian occupation.

If you're a Pakistani you can refer any report of water crisis in Pakistan and how Kashmir is their only solution to water security.

Sadly, if you're a person of Kashmiri Descent (Hindu or Muslim) you can read of land reforms by Sheikh Abdullah in 1947 and change in power dynamics later on following the events. That's where the actual problem started. From there Pakistan waged a war to get Kashmir to solve their problem of water and India led it through diplomacy to capture the same on reasons of "if Pakistan is not doing it why should we do it" and later using army to tackle terrorism, religious cleansing and separatist movement in the valley.

Development is the answer to Kashmir problem only. Once Kashmir has a sound economy it'll have a better position of negotiation like HongKong has now from China.
