Sonar, is a short from for Sound Navigation and Ranging. This is a technique in which sound waves are used for exploring the ocean. It is observed that sound waves travel more distance in water than the radar or any other waves. It is used to search for objects on seafloor, navigation.

Sonar are of two types:

Active sonar

Passive sonar.

Active sonar are used to detect signal of sound into water. As the sound hits the object it gets back reflected making an echo.

Passive sonar are used to detect noise from marine objects.
