what is SONAR? How does a SONAR help in detecting under water objects such as submerged un an ocean?

The SONAR is in the form of sound navigating and and ranging it is used for detect the prescence of unseen water object such as sub marines. in sonar ultrasonic waves are sent in all direction from the ship and detect and return by reflection
