Sorting is any process of arranging items systematically, and has two common, yet distinct meanings:

ordering: arranging items in a sequence ordered by some criterion;

categorizing: grouping items with similar properties.

Answer:

Sorting means to organize things according to sort or type. Nowadays we deal with a great amount of information, for instance digital documents. So it is important to categorized them and save them in a systematic order. Thankfully there are ways to organize information for efficiency and prevention of wastage of time and misplacement.

Alphabetically - in alphabetical order.

Chronologically - by year, month and time.

Location - by country or geographical locations.

Magnitude - by ranking which can be pricing or quantity (volume).

Category - by type like sales, purchase or contracts.
