Leaves can absorb water, heat, sunlight and carbon dioxide. The chlorophyll helps in absorbing all these substances in a row. The leaves contain stomata or pores that can do the function of absorbing all the 4 things mentioned above. Other parts of the plants lack these pores and so, can not absorb or synthesise any food.
