There are seven main taxonomic ranks: kingdom, phylum or division,class, order, family, genus, species.

Species :-
a group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding. The species is the principal natural taxonomic unit, ranking below a genus and denoted by a Latin binomial, e.g. Homo sapiens.

Genus:-
a principal taxonomic category that ranks above species and below family, and is denoted by a capitalized Latin name, e.g. Leo

Family:-
a group consisting of two parents and their children living together as a unit.

Order:-
the arrangement or disposition of people or things in relation to each other according to a particular sequence, pattern, or method.

Class:-
a set or category of things having some property or attribute in common and differentiated from others by kind, type, or quality

Phylum:-
a principal taxonomic category that ranks above class and below kingdom, equivalent to the division in botany.

Kingdom:-
a country, state, or territory ruled by a king or queen.

Group of individuals organisms with fundamental similarities is known as a species. Generally species are classified on the basis of their morphological differences.

Let's consider the example; -


magnifera \: indica \: and \: \\  solanum \: tubersum
The second word indica and tubersum indicates species. While 1st word indicate the genus. It's possible one genus can have 2 or more than 2 species.




genus
Genus is a comprises a group of related species which has more characters common in comparison to species of other genera .


It means genera are closely related to species. for example, potato and bringal both are belong to same genus solanum. .





family
Family is a group or category which is less similar as compare to genus and species. generally families are classified on the basis of vegetative or reproductive features.


example; '-

cat and dog they have less similarities and also they are different from each other. another example horse and donkey.




order
Order is a category ir group of individuals organisms which is classified on the basis of their aggregate character. It is a highest category as compare to family, genus, and species.

It exhibit few similar characters .

class
It is very closely related to order.

phylum

Phylum is a group of individuals organisms which are classified on the basis of their common features like presence of notochord and dorsal hollow neural system.


In case of plants classes with few similar characters are assigned to a higher category called division.





kingdom
The most important category Kingdom .


It is a group or category of individuals organisms in which animals belonging to various phyla are assigned to the highest category called Kingdom.
