Spherical mirrors :

\longmapsto Mirrors having curved reflecting surface are called spherical mirrors.

There are two types of spherical mirrors :

  1. Concave Mirrors
  2. Convex Mirrors

Concave Mirrors :

\longmapsto A mirror whose reflecting surface is towards the centre of curvature is called as concave mirror.

›»› Characteristics of concave mirrors :

  • Reflecting surface is curved inwards.

  • Image formed is real and inverted except when the object is closer to the mirror.

  • Image formed is either enlarged or diminished.

Convex Mirrors :

\longmapsto A mirror whose reflecting surface is on the opposite surface of centre of curvature is called as convex mirror.

›»› Characteristics of convex mirrors :

  • Reflecting surface is curved outwards.

  • Image formed is virtual and erect.

  • Image formed is diminished.
