Squamous Epithelium.

➡ It is madeup of single layer of flat cells. The cells have irregular boundaries. The cells are polyhedral or polyginal. The cells are Compactly packed like the tiles on the floor without or few intercellular matrix.

➡ Sqyamous epithelliym form a sheet like structure it is called Pavement membrane. The cells in epithelium in certain region form a wavy epithelium of wavy surface it is k/a testellated epithelium.

Squamous epithelium is made up of thin, flat, polygonal cells.

They are having disc like structure.

The nucleus is rounded, bulging and centrally located.

They form a structure as that of a floor tile .

The squamous epithelium are of two types :

★ Simple Squamous tissue
★ Stratified Squamous tissue

Location :

They form the lining of nose, pericardial cavity, blood vessels, lung alveoli, coelomic cavity etc .

They are also found in the surface of the skin .

Functions :

• Protection

• Exchange of gases

• Ultrafiltration

• Abrasion
