Squamous epithelium is made up of thin, flat, polygonal cells.

They are having disc like structure.

The nucleus is rounded, bulging and centrally located.

They form a structure as that of a floor tile .

The squamous epithelium are of two types :

★ Simple Squamous tissue
★ Stratified Squamous tissue

Location :

They form the lining of nose, pericardial cavity, blood vessels, lung alveoli, coelomic cavity etc .

They are also found in the surface of the skin .

Functions :

• Protection

• Exchange of gases

• Ultrafiltration

• Abrasion

➡Cells arranged end to end like tiles on a floor.
➡Cells are polygonal in surface cube .
➡It forms delicate lining of cavities (mouth,esophagous,nose etc) blood vessels and covering of the tongue and skin .
➡Epithelial cells are arranged in many layers (stratum) to prevent wear and tear in skin .This pattern is stratified squalour epithelial.
