A stable atom is an atom that has enough binding energy to hold the nucleus together permanently. An unstable atom does not have enough binding energy to hold the nucleus together permanently and is called a radioactive atom.

The presence of 8 electrons in the outermost shell indicates stability of an atom. An atom tends to lose electron if it has one to four electrons in its outermost orbit. When an atom donates these free electrons it has positive valency

sunidhi75: and from where does the atom gets enough binding energy?
sunidhi75: in order to get stability
sunidhi75: hi
rudraverma86pdmdpg: its simple they get this energy due to there sub shells and electrons revolving around there sun shell
