if the concentration of each species taking part in the electrode reaction is unity that is if any gas appears in electro reaction is confined to one atmospheric pressure and the temperature is 298 Kelvin then the potential of each electrode is said to be standard electrode potential and electrode potential is defined as the potential associated with each electrode.
