Ques. What is standard meridian of INDIA?

Answer-   The meridian used for reckoning standard time; throughout most of the world the standard meridians are those whose longitudes are exactly divisible by 15°. (mapping) A meridian of a map projection along which the scale is as stated.

Ques. why it has been selected so??

Answer-   From Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh there is a time lag of two hours. Hence, time along the Standard Meridian of India (82° 30' E) passing through Mirzapur (in Uttar Pradesh) is taken as the standard time for the whole country.
