every place on earth has its local time and at every 1 degree the change is of 4 minutes. ... So The significance of Standard meridian is to manage time difference in the country.

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER

Standard meridian is an imaginary line which passes through Mirzapur ,Uttar Pradesh .It lies almost at 82.30'E.

It determines the time over the India. As there is a time lag of 2 hours between estern and western point of India. So for convenience along time standard meridian is chosen for the standard time.
