standardisation of products means protecting consumers from sub-standards and varying standards of goods which affect health and safety of the consumers and the product of mass consumption requires standardisation.

Under the STANDARDISATION of products , government lays minimum standards of the products. It develops flood standards, guidelines and codes of practice for production, distribution and selling.

For maintaining the minimum standard, the government has created Various institution.


(i) Through the standardisation of products government tires to protect the consumers from lack of quality and the varying standards of the goods.


(ii) The government of India has setup two agencies to check the quality and standard of products. These are:-


a) Beaurau of standard council:-- it had the responsibility of laying down the standards for industrial and consumers good on a scientific basis, and CERTIFIING the goods which meets the standard of prescribed basis.


b) Agmark:-- It is implemented under agriculture produce act in 1937 as amended in 1986. This scheme is marketed by DIRECTORATE OF MARKETING INTELLINGCY (DMI) in the ministry of agriculture, government of India. Product such as honey and spices carry such marks.
