Steric hindrance is the stopping of a chemical reaction which might be caused by a molecule's structure. An example of steric hindrance is how rotaxances are created.

Hi mate.

Thanks for asking this question.

Here is your answer,

sterric \: hindrance \: =

Steric hindrance is closely related

to the steric effect. Due to the deposition of the

steric mass, it decrease the rate of chemical

reactions is known as the Steric Hindrance.

It generally found in the intermolecular

reactions, in the reaction takes place due to

the intermolecular interaction between the

molecules.

Steric hindrance is mostly occurs

because the large atom can take a place of

reaction site molecule.

Example :

Carbon tetrachloride can not be

hydrolysed due to the large size of the chlorine

atom. Which blocks the access of water

towards carbon at the central molecules.

Basically steric hindrance is some of the bulky

groups or atoms which prevents the other

group or atoms from attacking at certain sites.

Thank you.
