What is stratospheric ozone depletion and what is ozone hole?

The CFCs released by us in the atmosphere convert ozone into oxygen.This reduces the amount of ozone in the ozone layer and creates hole. This is called stratospheric ozone depletion and these holes are called ozone holes.

The depletion of ozone layer because of methane, chlorofluorocarbons etc. is known as \textbf{Ozone hole.}

• It is present in our atmosphere in the stratosphere region.

• It is found over Antarctic and Arctic region.

\textbf{It's consequences are :}

• It absorbs harmful UV radiation which can cause cancer and other skin allergies.

• The use of chlorofluorocarbons in aerosols and refrigerators causes thinning of ozone layer.
